Read the personal background of Nadine here, and Jorg here
In the beginning of 2013 we both started working at Voys. Voys is an organization different than others in its way of organizing and her view on the world. Working within this environment sparked a big wave of personal development for both of us. During that proces of figuring things out for ourselves and parting from ghost of the past, we found out we were both struggling. During a lunch break we started talking about this and for some reason we both opened up completely to each other. Man we exchanged a lot of words after that, having great talks touching our essence.
We both struggled heavily the rest of that year, becoming more aware of our own selves and what made us happy. It became painfully clear that both our relationships waren’t part anymore of that future picture of happiness.
In the end both our relations stranded after 13 years leaving us broken, but with a clear view of what made us happy and a big question mark. What is there between us?
We both choose to follow our heart and that little voice inside which said ‘we can dance in the rain’.
Working abroad
Coming together, working together and both processing a break-up was a cocktail of highs and lows. So after a couple of months, at the end of 2016, we moved for 3 months to Capetown, South Africa. A wonderful place where Voys SA has its headquarters.
We lived there, worked there, had some small trips and traveled through the gorgeous Garden Route, Wildcoast & Swaziland.
Big questions
Before we left the Netherlands, I planned to ask her two questions. So I organized the beginning of our trip to the Garden Route and ended up with some good food in a beautiful treehouse. First I asked here if she wanted to travel together for a long period, having a great outdoor adventure. I have always dreamed to be able to just experience the freedom of travel, discover the world, discover other cultures and meet people. Free of other obligations. Nadine immediately said yes!
The second question one was the big one and after 15min on my knees hearing ‘you’re crazy, you’re crazy, ow you’re crazy’ she said yes.
Expand your playground
In the aftermath of our trip to South Africa we started discussing where we would go and for how long. For some reason it didn’t feel good to travel a couple of months, come home and continue where we left off. So sometimes we would tease each other by saying ’maybe we should just quit our job and start traveling without an enddate’.
This whole idea evolved over time until the point we made the choice too good for it. And expand our playground.
